Jack Secret

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 17, 2008, 4:02 PM
So, as many of you know, I've been working on a creator owned project called 'Jack Secret' for a while now... Wanted to post the banner that the Urban Barbarian himself, Dan Panosian [link] , created for our booth at SDCC. Hope you all digs it!

My artist proof cards

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 17, 2008, 12:46 PM
Wanted to share my first two AP cards... I will have these at SDCC, if anyone's interested. And before anyone asks, yes, my Hulk is HUGELY influenced by Ed McGuiness'. I think he draws a pretty mean Hulk- made me want to draw him too! Hope you all like.

New pages, Hellboy2...

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 10, 2008, 10:05 AM
Just posted a few pages from Spider-Man/Ms. Marvel; I'll post more once the book is solicited. This is what I've been working on for 4 long months...

Saw 'Hellboy 2' over the weekend, and am still digesting it. Visually, amazing; Del Toro certainly knows how to make a good looking movie. I thought that story-wise, it was a bit thin, and somewhat choppily edited- there was a weird overall rhythm to the movie. And I thought humor was over the top, perhaps a bit too much. Overall, a solid 'B', if you're looking for a grade.

And another great journal entry by Karen K. Check it out! [link]

I will be at the San Diego Comi-Con promoting 'Jack Secret' with my partner-in-crime, Dan Panosian [link] Also sharing our booth is Sean Galloway [link] Joey Mason [link] and JonBoy Meyers [link] We are calling ourselves 'The Urban Barbarians'; look for the booth (#2544) and come say hi!

Re: Sketch cards and submissions

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 8, 2008, 2:07 PM
Since I stopped taking sketch card commissions, I've gotten a ton of notes and messages asking me for critiques and that sort of thing. I honestly don't have the time currently to go over each individual's portfolio (find me at a con; I take some time each day to do just that, though, once I'm done, I'm done!).

But thankfully, another Deviant has taken on some of the burden for me. Karen K. put together a little journal a few weeks ago (sorry it took me so long to put it up here Karen!)that illustrates some things that may help those of you out there needing crits.

Check it out here! [link]

I'll post in a few days about SDCC, where I'll be, etc.

A criminally underappreciated artist! Really stoked to have a master like Bill over here at DA. Check him out! [link]

Sad news...

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 28, 2008, 10:25 AM
Just heard this morning that Mike Turner passed away last night. Though Mike and I weren't close friends, we got along, and hung out a few times over the years. He was a great guy, and I really can't believe he lost the battle with his illness. Pretty shocked right now.

I unfortunately do not have time to offer critiques to all those asking me. Lots of professionals hopped on board MM3, so people were not denied simply on talent; there were space considerations as well. I just feel bad I don't have time to explain to each and every person why they didn't make the cut.

Again, thanks for taking the time to hit me up, and thanks to all who favorited or watched me when they came through; much appreciated.

Have a great weekend all!

Just wanted to say thanks to all the folks that added me to their watch lists, or favorited one of my pieces, or who dropped me a note saying 'welcome back'... I'd normally say thanks individually, but I am really busy right now.

Those of you who haven't heard back from me yet- I am still working my way through submissions. Unfortunately, quite a bit of what has been sent to me just isn't of a professional level; too many people telling me their work is 'cartoony', almost as an excuse for the lack of quality. Bruce Timm is 'cartoony'; 'not there' is just that- not there, not ready for prime time, etc. I hate saying this, and I don't want to discourage anyone, but please- be honest with yourself. If your work is of an amateur nature, it's ok (you're learning!)- just don't bombard me with submissions for a professional job.

I hope that doesn't sound too mean; I don't want to discourage anyone. But after digging through roughly 700 emails so far today, and the vast majority of them being really poor quality, figured I should put out a call for help here...

Thanks again all.
